For T-ASE Editorial Board Members only (Editors and AEs):

Using RAS Papercept to find candidate Reviewers

(August 2013)

Papercept is a paper reviewing system used for most IEEE RAS conferences and for several IEEE journals and thus has an extensive database of RAS members and their research interests based on keywords for papers they have submitted in the past decade. T-ASE still uses Manuscript Central for paper reviews, but Papercept has created a special "T-ASE Workspace" accessible to all T-ASE Editorial Board members for use in finding candidate reviewers for papers.

Phase I: Find out if you have a PIN in the RAS Papercept System already (it's important to only have one PIN):

1) visit: http://ras.papercept.net/conferences/scripts/start.pl

2) On the top left corner, click: PIN

3) PIN Wizard Page: "Find your own or someone else's PIN": click Next.

4) Please type in your last name, check if you have a PIN,

if so, make a record of it (you can request a new password by returning to PIN Wizard page: step 3 above.)

if not, in the RAS Papercept system and create a PIN:

1) visit http://ras.papercept.net/conferences/scripts/start.pl

2) On the top left corner, click: PIN

3) PIN Wizard Page: "Register a new PIN, if you never obtained a PIN before": Click Next.

5) Use your PIN and to Log In at top of:

http://ras.papercept.net/conferences/scripts/start.pl

6) In your Workspaces: You should see T-ASE listed (as a "virtual" conference) you can Enter.

If you don't see T-ASE yet, send an email to the T-ASE Editorial Assistant requesting that you be given Reviewer Access to the T-ASE Papercept Workspace

Phase II: Using RAS Papercept to identify possible reviewers:

1) Log in to papercept with your PIN and password and enter the T-ASE Workspace

(If you don't see the T-ASE Workspace, email your PIN to the T-ASE Editorial Assistant so she can add you!)

2) To find Reviewers, Click on PINs on the top to get to: "Look Up or Create a PIN."

3) Pull down menu entitled "Search in."

This allow you to search for possible Reviewers using keywords.

Choose "Keywords" from the pull down menu.

4) Enter the keywords in the "Search for" Box. Note that you can use logic operators such as AND , OR, NOT to specify keyword combinations. The operators: AND, OR and NOT must be in capitals.

5) Click on the "Search" button below the box. After a few seconds, all matching reviewers will be displayed in a table like format in alphabetical order of their last names. Since papercept does not connect to Manuscript Central, you cannot import those reviewers directly through webpage: so when you find relevant reviewers, enter the reviewers' emails into Manuscript Central when you request that they review the paper.

Note!: Before assigning, please check the reviewer's background:

A few tips in selecting reviewers:

a) Click on Details next to each reviewer to get further information about their affiliation, geographical location, etc.

b) PIN numbers usually correspond to the time when reviewers join the RAS community. Those with high PIN numbers are often grad students.

c) If a reviewer has many keywords associated with their PIN, they may be very senior researchers who may not respond promtly to your requests for reviews.

(Special thanks to Dezhen Song and Pradeep Misra for help setting this up!)
