Margaret Lazzari

Margaret Lazzari is an artist and writer living in Los Angeles and an Associate Professor in Art at the University of Southern California. Self-Defense is a 24-page, black-and-white limited edition artist book with self-defense information combined with images showing women as powerful when they have been attacked. The text interweaves excerpts from beauty magazines, lurid novels and martial arts manuals, layering complex messages about beauty, femininity, power, fear, and self-reliance.
